The association has once again supported the Auburn University School of Architecture
and Building Science’s concrete furniture contest. The contest is the culmination of
the student’s work during the fall semester. Students are paired into 4 person teams
and challenged to design concrete benches that weigh less than 200 pounds but must
be able to support 600 pounds. As a result, students are forced to use lightweight
materials and make use of steel reinforcement. Students are also judged on the quality
of the concrete finish.
The ACIA’s donation is used to reward the winning teams.
The winning projects will be used by the city of Auburn for pedestrian resting areas.
Pictured are several of the projects.
