The program is also meant to prepare finishers for the ACI Certified Finisher Exam. The program cost is $175 for individuals taking the class and sitting for the exam and $75 for those individuals only auditing the class. Registration Form

ACIA Launches New Website

The association is proud to announce the creation of a new website at www.alconcrete.org. The new site features downloadable literature on concrete products, easy access to NRMCA’s Concrete in Practice Series and NCMA’s Tek Notes, and a daily listing of the construction articles from Alabama news papers. Another function that should be useful for members is an event registration section where all upcoming programs’ registration forms can be downloaded for submission.

Foundation Trustees Selected

During the Annual Business Meeting on January 30, 2008, the association membership approved seven members to serve on the Alabama Concrete Industries Foundation Board of Trustees. The following people were elected to serve as trustees.

Brad Christopher – Lane Bishop York and Delahay
Tom Holton – retired Sherman Industries
Kevin Mathis – Jamieson Equipment
Dan Meine – Grace Construction
David Nooney – R.E. Grills Construction

By-Law Changes Approved at Annual Meeting

The membership present at the Annual Business Meeting approved the proposed by law changes unanimously. The separation will bring an additional person onto the executive committee of the association.

ACI Chapter Scholarship Program Accepting Applications

The Scholarship Program for the Alabama Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (AC-ACI) is now accepting applications for 2008. The Scholarship Committee members are Dan Green; National Cement Company of Alabama, Inc., Jess Carr; Consultant, and Doug Gruber; Headwaters Resources, Inc.

Many of you may remember that the commitment for the program originated from the Central Alabama Chapter-ACI Awards Competition Program of several years ago and is supported by ongoing annual fundraising activities.

The Scholarship Program is focused on two levels of students:

Graduating high school seniors accepted into 1) an engineering college, with course work leading to a degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture, or studies related to the concrete construction/materials industry or 2) a trade / technical school with course work related to the concrete construction industry or the concrete or masonry trades. Applicants must be residents of Alabama. The value of this scholarship award is $1000.

College students: Must be enrolled full time in an accredited college/university and 1) must be entering the 4th year (senior year) of studies leading to a BS degree or 2) must be entering graduate studies or must already be a full time graduate student leading to a Masters degree.

Course work for the College Scholarship Program must be leading to a degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture, or studies related to the concrete construction/materials industry.

Applicants must be residents of Alabama.

The program will only work with your involvement. Any member of AC-ACI and ACIA may select high schools and/or colleges/universities and distribute the Scholarship Program information directly. These schools of our membership’s choosing can add our Scholarship Program information to their system then distribute or post via their guidance departments and teachers/instructors.

We urge our membership to get the word out to your favorite college, high school or your alma mater. Otherwise, no one will know about the program.

Deadline for applications/entrees will be April 15, 2008.

Scholarship Program information and completed applications/paperwork can be relayed through Daniel Green, National Cement Co. of Alabama, 205-908-4327 or email: dgreen66@charter.net
